After five sold-out editions in Paris, the Newcomer Comedy Club by SINGA performed for the very first time in Marseille. On Saturday, October 24, as part of the BAZAR Festival organized by SINGA Marseille and in partnership with the Garage Comedy Club, nearly 150 people packed into La Cômerie for an hour of stand-up comedy in an electric atmosphere. Four local performers from the Marseille scene, four backgrounds from afar, and one shared drive: to laugh about it together.
This Marseille premiere was part of the 2nd edition of the BAZAR Festival, organized by SINGA Marseille at La Cômerie. From 2:00 PM to midnight, the public enjoyed workshops, a creators’ market, and a live podcast recording featuring Benoît Hamon on reshaping the narrative around migration. Then, in the evening, the spotlight turned to the Newcomer Comedy Club by SINGA, co-organized with the Garage Comedy Club.
As with every edition, the performers share one common trait: not being born in France, but living, creating, and making people laugh here. Some are stage veterans, while others are emerging talents.
🎤 Sarah Jatombo (@sarah_jatombo): Straight from the Indian Ocean, Sarah is a bubbling burst of energy. Her story, self-deprecation, and unique outlook on life lend true authenticity to her set.
🎤 Santiago Ruiz (@santiruizf): Born in Colombia and a adopted Marseillais for the past ten years, Santiago shares his adventures—or rather misadventures—in a city that took him in and where he feels right at home.
🎤 Donia Joly (@doniablabla): A mother of two and proud of her heritage, Donia humorously questions what she wants to pass on to her children, what society instills in them instead, and how to push back against racism.
🎤 Amine (@ladopamine_): Having left Morocco in 2011 to chase the French dream (spoiler: he’s still dreaming), Amine is part of the “New Wave,” a generation of comedians who share their experiences with a rich sense of philosophy.
Hosting the event was Fabien Gaudioso (@fabien.gaudioso), MC of the Garage Comedy Club (@garage_comedy): Marseille in his heart and an electric vibe—just what was needed to get the crowd cheering, twerking, and buzzing between acts.
In the Room: La Cômerie on Fire
Nearly 150 people showed up, and it didn’t take long for the room to burst into energy. Local residents, people supported by SINGA, or simply curious visitors: an audience that reflected Marseille itself—vibrant and united for one evening by shared laughter.
Between punchlines, self-deprecation, and fresh perspectives on local life, stereotypes shattered one after another.
Following its success in Paris, the Newcomer Comedy Club is finding new ways to grow at the local level through SINGA chapters by tapping into local scenes, performers, and venues. For this premiere, SINGA Marseille partnered with the Garage Comedy Club, which brought along its comedians and MC. And this is just the beginning: the evening launches a long-term partnership between the Garage Comedy Club and SINGA’s Marseille chapter.
Wherever it goes, the Newcomer Comedy Club stays true to its mission: changing perspectives on migration without being preachy, simply through laughter and connection.
Thank You, Marseille!
