SINGA launches “Murmurations,” a new newsletter designed to spark ideas about migrations

SINGA is launching “Murmurations,” a new monthly editorial meeting designed to share stories, analyses, and perspectives that are often missing from public debate. It’s an invitation to take a step back, gain a better understanding of migration and get ideas flowing again.

Why launch a new newsletter on migrations ?

Migration. The word is everywhere.

In political discourse, the media, election campaigns, and family conversations. Yet the more the topic dominates public space, the harder it seems to talk calmly about it.

Positions are hardening. Debates are becoming oversimplified. Social media encourages immediate reactions rather than nuance. Statistics sometimes replace stories. Fears often take precedence over real-life experiences.

At SINGA, however, we see a different reality every day. For more than fifteen years, we have been supporting thousands of local residents and newcomers who, together, create projects, businesses, friendships, and citizen-led initiatives. We see how the encounter change perspectives, how diversity fuels innovation and how migrations help shape our societies.

This reality deserves to be told. It is from this conviction that “Murmurations” was born.

Why “Murmurations” ?

The name is inspired by a fascinating phenomenon observable in the sky : bird murmurations.

These immense collective movements sometimes bring together several thousand indivuals that seem to move in perfect synchronization. For a long time, this phenomenon was viewed as a form of magic.

Scientists, however, have discovered a much simpler explanation.

Each bird only pays attention to a few nearby neighbors. It adjusts its flight path based on them. No leader. No centralized command. Just a multitude of local interactions which produce a harmonious collective movement.

This image resonates particularly well with SINGA’s vision.

A newsletter to share ideas

With “Murmurations”, SINGA aims to create an editorial space accessible to anyone who wants to better understand migrations and the issues surrounding it.

The goal is to inform, provide context, share experiences from the field and offer useful resources to fuel everyday discussions. Here’s what you’ll find in each issue :

→ An editorial

A prominent figure from the SINGA network shares their perspective on a societal issue, a current event or a question related to migrations.

→ “Read elsewhere, analyzed here”

An entrepreneur, journalist, artist or expert in exile analyzes an article, a statement or a current event through the lens of their own experience and unique perspective.

→ “The community has talent”

Because paths often tell the story better than statistics, this section highlights the projects, initiatives and achievements of the SINGA community’s members.

→ “Fact Checker”

Each month, we break down a commonly heard argument or misconception about migrations, providing facts, context, and resources for further reading.

→ “It’s happening around here”

Spotlight on an initiative led by a SINGA chapter in France or abroad : event, innovative project, program or gathering you won’t want to miss.

→ “Let’s whisper together”

Finally, each issue will conclude with a call to action : participate in an event, join an initiative, support SINGA or simply share content that deserves to be shared.
