On June 20th, on the occasion of World Refugee Day, SINGA Toulouse and the association “Les Films de la Jetée” presented their very first documentary: “The Ties of Migration” at the ABC cinema. This documentary was made in a participatory way through a co-construction approach between newly arrived people and locals, and the directors: a sensitive, committed and collective way to tell what it means to “build a society”.

Since 2018, SINGA Toulouse has been bringing together volunteers, driven by the desire to create a more inclusive society by fostering connections between local people and newcomers (refugees, asylum seekers…).

In 2025, SINGA Toulouse launched this unique project around storytelling and imagery to shed light on the strong and enriching bonds created through the journeys of newcomers.

A collective project, born from the field and the need to tell

In a context where discourse around migration is hardening, it becomes essential to make space for lived stories, for multiple voices and for the encounters that transform.

Since January 2025, around twenty participants came together for five workshops around documentary film: writing, filming, narration, interviews…

Directors Lisa Chabbert and Pauline Lebellenger guided the groups without imposing a narrative line, allowing a multitude of voices, emotions and perspectives to emerge.

Testimonies, anecdotes, shared emotions: each word, each shot was born from a collective, respectful and deeply human process.

“Some participants choose to speak about their journey to get here, others about the people they met, or the happy times in their country. The film brings together voices of migration, without imposing the topic.” Nadine Puibusque, president of SINGA Toulouse

Bringing singular stories into view

The 20-minute documentary highlights different paths — sometimes moving, always human.

Among them is the story of Mustafa, who arrived in France without housing, and gradually found a community thanks to SINGA:

“When I arrived here, I was living in the street. It was Nadine, the president of SINGA Toulouse, who told me about SINGA. Thanks to her, I met a lot of people. And today, I work with the director I met there and I’ve found friends.” – Mustafa

This documentary is part of SINGA Toulouse’s daily approach — a community led by volunteers and residents committed to a more inclusive society.

An evening to celebrate connection

On June 20, 2025, the documentary was screened as a premiere in Toulouse, in the presence of participants, partners, and audience members.
It was followed by a debate on the theme: “Culture, migration and living together: cross perspectives” and a friendly gathering with drinks and food.

An evening that reflected what SINGA Toulouse does every week through its free and open-to-all activities — and its constant will to make connection an act of resistance and joy.

It was also an opportunity to speak about the solidarity-based co-housing program led by the association “J’Accueille powered by SINGA”, whose stories appear in the documentary.

One documentary, many ties, and a society to reinvent

Behind each connection, there’s a story. Behind each encounter, a more open society being built.
“The Ties of Migration” shows that inclusion can be simple, beautiful, and collective.
